Action Incorporated

Through education and education-based training opportunities, we partner with individuals who are willing to do what it takes to achieve their career goals. ACTION programs include: High School Youth Educational Reentry, Fostering Transitions, Achieving Career Excellence, Opportunities Now, Weatherization and Emergency Home Repair, Community Services, Housing Counseling, Full Plate.


Adult Literacy Barrow

ALB is a non-profit organization that promotes literacy opportunities in Barrow County. ALB initiates, plans, directs, and coordinates programs for adult education such as citizenship classes, GED programs, and English as Second Language classes.


Adventure Bags

Adventure Bags provides emergency assistance backpacks for children who have been displaced from their home (house fire, legal situations, other traumatic events). Bags are distributed by partnering with various agencies such as the Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS), domestic violence shelters, fire departments, law enforcement agencies, homeless shelters, and other organizations that serve Georgia’s most vulnerable children.


Barbara Shedd Prosperity Project

The Barbara Shedd Prosperity Project aims to improve the community by providing employment assistance through interviewing skills training, resume writing, and by partnering with local businesses to provide haircuts and business clothing for participants to interview in. More info to come!


Barrow County Family Connection

Family Connection collaborative serves as the local decision-making body, bringing community partners together to develop, implement, and evaluate plans that address the serious challenges facing Georgia’s children and families.


Barrow County Habitat for Humanity

Barrow County Habitat is a non-profit organization that builds and renovates homes, giving people a hand up in our community, and allowing them to own homes. We partner with local churches, organizations, schools, and individuals to construct, repair, and rehabilitate homes for families in need.


The Boys & Girls Club of Winder-Barrow County

The Boys & Girls Club of Winder-Barrow County has been in the forefront of youth development, working with local youth. The Club is available to all boys and girls ages 6 to 18 during the critical hours when school ends, during the summer, and most school holidays. GREAT FUTURES START HERE!

Lanier Technical College | Adult Education


The Adult Education Program is specifically designed for adults who have different needs, backgrounds, and skills. For that reason, a flexible program has been created which meets their needs. Lanier Technical College is ready to assist individuals to reach their dreams and capture their future. GED® and English Literacy classes taught at Lanier Technical College are free of charge.


The Oasis

The Oasis is a connection center sponsored by Winder First Baptist. Our goal is to join with God’s plan for wholeness for individuals, families, and our community at large. We desire to provide a gathering space where everyone feels welcome and has the opportunity to experience true transformation in their hearts and lives. You are invited to join us for coffee, to meet new friends, and build meaningful relationships with others through our workshops, classes, community groups, and more.


Rural Women In Action


Rural Women In Action, Inc (RWIA) is a community-based organization based in Winder, Georgia that serves the needs of Rural and marginalized communities in the South. Founded by a black woman with a team of black women, RWIA started with a vision to educate and empower the residents of rural areas in order to transform the minds of those individuals and their families. Utilizing strategies and tools focusing on lived experiences and stories of resilience, RWIA adopted the mantra:
‘Information + Transformation = Empowerment.’


Social Empowerment Center


The Social Empowerment Center is full service mental health and social service agency. Their goals include involving community, family and neighborhood resources to support families through difficulties that frequently involve court ordered services.

Mission and Purpose
Furthering the education of our community in the fields of sustainable agriculture, conservation of natural resources, nutrition and culinary safety and sanitation; to providing learning opportunities (facilities, equipment, professionals, food access,  programs, and events) for our community to engage in the promotion of and participation in gardening and healthy cooking;
to collaborate and advocate for the advancement of the Farm to School efforts in our community.


Winder Housing Authority

The Housing Authority of the City of Winder, GA (WHA) is a quasi-governmental agency created under state statute.
Starting in late 2015 and concluding in early 2016, WHAs entire portfolio was converted from Public Housing to Multifamily PBRA (Project Based Rental Assistance). All WHA units were sold to WHA affiliates, and the program is now de-federalized.
WHA is now Management Agent to its affiliates, Crescent Residential Properties of Winder, LLC and Innovation Crescent Properties, LLC.
