The Winder Housing Authority, in partnership with the City of Winder and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Cottages on Maynard, a new affordable housing development on Maynard Street.
The project will feature seven single-family homes designed to provide quality, energy-efficient housing for working families and first-time homebuyers. Funded in part through the Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP), the Cottages on Maynard reflects the Housing Authority’s commitment to expanding homeownership opportunities and supporting neighborhood revitalization in Winder.
Construction is scheduled to begin this fall, with homes expected to be available in 2026.

Wimberly Center to Limit Rentals to Tenants Only Beginning January 1, 2025
Winder, GA – The Wimberly Center for Community Development announces an important update regarding use of its event spaces. Beginning January 1, 2025, the Wimberly Center will rent its facilities exclusively to current Wimberly Center tenants and Winder Housing Authority (WHA) tenants.
This change is part of an effort to better serve the Center’s resident organizations and the WHA community by ensuring easier access to meeting, training, and event space. Public rentals for individuals and outside groups will no longer be available after December 31, 2024.
“The Wimberly Center was created to support community organizations and the residents we serve,” said Michelle Yawn, Executive Director of Winder Housing Authority. “By prioritizing our tenants, we can help foster greater collaboration, resource sharing, and programming that benefits the community as a whole.”
Wimberly Center leadership acknowledges the community’s past support and understands that this change may affect some organizations and individuals who have historically utilized the Center’s spaces for private events. However, leadership emphasizes that this policy adjustment is necessary to fulfill the Center’s long-term vision of being a true hub for collaboration, learning, and service delivery among its tenants and the broader WHA community.
Current tenants of the Wimberly Center and WHA residents who are interested in reserving space for events in 2025 are encouraged to contact the Wimberly Center office early to ensure availability.
For additional information regarding the new rental policy or to inquire about tenant eligibility and space reservations, please contact Winder Housing Authority at 770.867.7495 or www.winderhousing.com.

I must first give a shout out to the staff at Wimberly Center. For me Wimberly Center in Winder has been a blessing from above. Especially, the Oasis at Wimberly Center which main mission is to connect people with God , through Bible studies, workshops and classes, Books discussions, healthy cooking classes, shared experiences and interests, to name just a few.
